Birdlife by the Lake: Birdwatching at Østensjøvannet

Join us for a calm and inspiring birdwatching walk around Østensjøvannet, one of Oslo’s most important and accessible wetland nature reserves. This guided outing invites you to slow down, observe, and learn how to “read” the wetlands through the birds that live and feed here.

Together with a friendly local guide, we follow easy paths around the lake while discovering a rich variety of birdlife. Depending on the season, you may see ducks, swans, wading birds, birds of prey, and many different songbirds. Along the way, you’ll learn how to recognize species by their shape, movement, and calls, and understand why wetlands are such vital habitats for wildlife.

The pace is relaxed, with plenty of stops for observation and questions, making this experience suitable for families, beginners, and curious international visitors. No prior birdwatching experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to look and listen.

Whether you’re spotting your first bird or your fiftieth, Østensjøvannet offers a peaceful and rewarding nature experience right in the city.
